Musk pointed to allegations that other AI programs had created non-sexual images of bikini-clad women, posting on X: “They want any excuse to censor.”

The billionaire appeared defiant last night despite protests over reports that the smart chatbot Grok, affiliated with X Company, was making sexual images of people, including children, at the request of users, according to the British news agency (BA Media) on Saturday.

The criticism directed at the “X” website focused on the smart chatbot Grok producing images of child abuse and manipulating images of real women and girls to remove their clothes.

British Technology Minister Liz Kendall said that she would support Ofcom if it decided to effectively ban the X website if it failed to comply with the country’s laws, saying: “The sexual manipulation of images of women and children is despicable and abhorrent.”

It is noteworthy that creating or sharing intimate images without their owners’ consent, or child sexual abuse material (including artificial intelligence-generated deepfake images), is already illegal. Fake photos of people wearing bikinis may fall under the category of intimate photos, as the legal definition includes a person appearing with bare breasts, buttocks, or genitals, or covering those parts with underwear only. Inappropriate images also include those that depict children in provocative positions, even without sexual activity.

Lord Kidron said that images generated by artificial intelligence of children wearing bikinis may not be legally classified as child sexual abuse material in some cases, but they represent an attack on children’s privacy and will. She concluded by saying: “We cannot live in a world where a child cannot post a picture of himself winning a race, unless he is prepared to be sexualized and humiliated.”
