I spend a lot of time in the gym, which means I’ve become fairly fussy about what’s worth wearing for a workout. Having cycled through heaps of cheap leggings and sagging sports bras, I’ve compiled a list of brands I know I can rely on for support, longevity and style. And they’re the brands that every year, earn a place on my Christmas wish list: a list I’ve decided to share with you, to help you shop for the fitness fanatics in your life.

From trainers and recovery tools to the small accessories that make long runs that little bit easier, everything here is both practical and pretty. Some are investment items, others are simple upgrades, but all of them are things I’d choose for myself. If you’re shopping for someone who takes their training seriously (or you’re that person), this is the wish list you need to bookmark this year.

Okay, it’s not the sexiest of presents. But every runner knows a good reflective jacket is the most important piece of kit you can get – and this one isgreat. Using REFLECT360 technology, it’s embedded with reflective glass beads that light you up from every angle, making you far visible on dark runs, early mornings and city streets. Crucially, it doesn’t compromise on performance: it’s lightweight and comfortable, despite being crafted from reflective material. Any early-morning or evening runner will thank you for this on those dark January nights.

PE Nation is one of my favourite places to shop for activewear, and I’m already eyeing up this pretty pastel set for my January Reformer Pilates classes. The Restore Seamless Sport Bra in Violet Crush offers light compression and just the right amount of support for low-intensity movement, without feeling restrictive. It’s soft, comfortable and designed to move with you – whether you’re holding a plank or heading for a post-class coffee. Styled with the matching seamless bike shortsI’d happily wear it for a summer stroll (even if I don’t quite make it to the gym…).

Recovery is officially part of the workout now, and this Renpho thermal massage gun makes it feel like less of a chore. Combining deep-tissue percussion with optional heat, it’s designed to ease tight muscles, speed up recovery and generally make you feel far put-together than you deserve after a long-run. Think of it as the at-home physio you’ll actually use.

Yes, they come with a premium price tag – but if Lululemon’s leggings are than worth the investment. My favourites are the Align style: high-rise, available in four different lengths and with a smooth, flattering fit that feels supportive without being restrictive. The best bit? There’s a discreet waistband pocket for a key or card. Honestly, try them: you’ll be a Lulu convert in no time.

Any gym bunny knows you get through socks faster than you can say ‘sweaty toes’. Adanola’s ones are designed for everyday wear, from workouts to walks and everything in between. Available in a pack of three in Midnight, Coffee Bean and Olive, they’re the kind of basics you’ll always be glad to have on rotation. And the extra thickness means you can say goodbye to blisters, too. Hallelujah.

If you work out regularly, you’ll know the pain of throwing sweaty kit straight into your gym bag and hoping for the best. This La Pochette sweat bag solves that problem. Designed to stash damp leggings, sports bras or socks post-gym class, it keeps moisture and smells contained so the rest of your bag stays fresh. Lightweight, wipe-clean and easy to chuck in a tote, it’s one of those simple-but-brilliant pieces you don’t realise you need until you have one.

I’m already a big fan of a Chilly’s bottle, and this sports version is a great upgrade if you’re a workout fiend. Designed to be thrown in a gym bag and used on the move, it keeps drinks cold for up to 24 hours, is BPA-free, and has a pop-top lid that makes mid-rep sipping easy (no unscrewing with sweaty hands). Available in a range of colours and sizes, with optional name engraving, it’s practical, durable and looks good too.

If you only buy one trainer for next year, make it the On Cloudrunner 2 – especially if you want to impress the Gen Zs in your life. Built for running but flexible enough for everyday wear, these feel cushioned and responsive underfoot, whether you’re hitting the pavement or the treadmill.  And they’re stylish enough to they still look good with off-duty outfits. Not cheap, but absolutely worth it for the runner in your life that you want to treat.

Is there anything better than the smug feeling of turning up to a reformer class with your own socks? You immediately feel like a pro. These Planet Nusa Reformer socks are exactly the kind of small upgrade that makes a big difference: grippy enough to keep you steady and chic enough to post on Instagram. Designed specifically for studio workouts, they stay put through lunges, planks and wobbly balance work, even when you’re quietly shaking.

Alo Yoga’s Airlift headband keeps flyaways and sweat firmly under control without feeling tight or uncomfortable, making it ideal for workouts where concentration matters (Pilates, yoga, barre). The soft, stretchy fabric sits smoothly against the head and prevents the dreaded sweaty hairline, while the Winter Frost shade adds a clean, polished finish that looks just as pretty outside the studio. It’s one of those small pieces that instantly makes your workout look – and feel – put together.

If you’re serious about running, a good belt or sling is non-negotiable. Salomon’s Pulse Sling is designed to carry your essentials without getting in the way, sitting close to the body so it doesn’t bounce or rub mid-run. It’s lightweight but surprisingly roomy: it fits your phone, keys and small extras, and stays put whether you’re ticking off daily miles or heading out for a long run.
