I Wasnt An Alcoholic But My Nightly Crisps And Wine Habit Was Controlling My Life… Mounjaro Helped Me Lose 5st But The Effect On My Drinking Has Been The Biggest Win

A woman who once drank a bottle of wine and indulged on crisps every single night has shared how Mounjaro helped her shed five stone and ditch her binge drinking habit.

Ann White, from Northampton, had spent three decades yo-yo dieting, constantly flitting between highly restrictive diets and binge eating.

The 69-year-old grandmother estimates she has lost a cumulative 40 stone over the years, while stuck in a cycle of starving herself for a period of time, only to give into her cravings weeks later.

‘I’ve tried everything to lose weightI’ve joined different diet clubs, I’ve even gone on diet pills, which just made me shaky, but I’d always put weight back on again,’ said Ann, who works part-time as an auditor.

Despite her best efforts, she could never keep the weight off long-term, and when she found herself weighing 15st 11lb and a size 20 last September, she knew something had to change.

Finally deciding enough was enough, she joined weight-loss brand Second Nature’s Moujaro programme and has since lost an impressive five stone. No longer binging on junk food, Ann is now also a svelte dress size 10/12.

Prior to starting fat jabs, Ann was regularly snacking on high-calorie foods and often drank at least a bottle of wine a day.

‘I’d drink wine, and then I binged because of drinking,’ she said. ‘I wasn’t an alcoholic, but I would easily drink a bottle of wine in a night, and then I would binge on anything. I’d starve and binge, starve and binge.

Most of the time, Anne would skip meals during the day, only to indulge in several glasses of booze later.

Plagued by constant thoughts about food, she would later find herself picking at bits of snacks and attempting to stave off the hunger pangs with glasses.

‘I used to think about food all the time and quite soon after eating I’d be thinking about it again – I wouldn’t even be hungry,’ she said. I’d be up and down having a drink and picking on crisps and snacks every night.’ But the she drank, the hungrier she felt.

‘I’d go out to buy stuff for binging, so I’d go out and get a load of cakes, crisps or sandwiches,’ she recalled.

‘The main thing was the wine, though and a lot of my overeating was caused by that.’

Although she was never overweight growing up, Ann’s mother had always obsessively monitored her own weight.

‘My mum was constantly on a diet. I can’t remember her eating with us very often,’ she shared. ‘By my late teens, I was looking at my weight all the time – probably too much – and I think I’ve always been on a bit of a diet.’

She later married in 1977 and had two children by the time she was 23. At this point, she had dropped to just under 10 stone. However, as the years went by and healthy habits slipped by the wayside, the scales began to creep up.

Today, Ann starts the day with a banana and a protein yoghurt. She will then prepare lunch ahead of time so she can maintain her healthy habits at work, and in the evenings, dinner could be turkey and a salad or an M&S ready meal. Pictured before weight-loss

After 10 years of marriage, the family relocated from Essex, where Ann’s whole family lived, to Northampton for her husband’s job with Travis Perkins. Without the comfort of her family around her, she started to reach for the bottle and .

‘I was happy enough at first, but that’s when I started to drink ,’ she said. ‘I’ve always liked drinking. I always enjoyed it, but it became of a problem when I moved – it became a crutch.

‘My husband, who’s been retired for 23 or 24 years, was a workaholic. He could have been at work at 12 o’clock at night, so I was on my own a lot. I was lonely and as my drinking increased, I put on weight.’

By September 2024, she weighed 15st 11lb and was desperately unhappy with her weight. So, determined to make a change for good, she started researching Mounjaro.

‘I was reading about Mounjaro, which made me join Second Nature. I hummed and hawed about it for a good six months, but I think I was a bit scared.

‘I tried everything – Weight Watchers, Slimming World… I had slimming tablets, but they made me shaky. But I’d try anything. In the past 30 years, I’ve probably lost 30 or 40 stone but overall never got to less than a size 16.’

Looking back, she said she was constantly preoccupied with her weight. ‘It was on my mind the whole time. I was always thinking, ‘How can I lose weight?’

‘Then I was standing in my bedroom looking at myself in the mirror, trying things on, and I thought, ‘I’ve thought about this too long, I’ve had enough. So I went straight on it and that was it.’

Ann was nervous at first to inject herself, but soon picked it up and even noticed the effects as soon as the next day.

‘The term “food noise” suddenly made sense to me, and I thought, “Oh my god, that’s what I’ve been getting all this time”. It stopped the food noise, and the appetite suppression kicked in straight away,’ she explained.

‘I felt different very quickly, I had the support from Second Nature and I had the confidence of knowing that it was working, and that this time I was going to do it.’

Not only did she no longer constantly crave snacks and treats, but her beloved glass of wine no longer had the appeal it once did.

‘When I had my second dose, I just stopped drinking. I didn’t come home and think, ‘I want a glass of wine now’, I just didn’t think about it, so I didn’t have it. I’ve now got stacks of wine at home, just sitting there untouched.’

The first stone came off quickly, and by Christmas, the results were noticeable. Since then, she has continued to lose weight steadily, shedding around a pound or a pound and a half a week.

‘I lost a lot around the middle straight away, which made me wonder if I had the equivalent of a man’s beer belly. My waist has gone down to a 32.’

Her snacks now include berries, dried apricots or nuts. ‘I might have a packet of crisps occasionally, but I only have them in the house if my grandchildren, who are 12 and 15, are over,’ she says.

Alongside her healthier food habits, she has now been able to control her drinking. ‘Sometimes I might not even finish my glass, whereas before, I was the one still drinking when everyone had finished.’

Anne also claimed that Mounjaro has changed her in other ways, removing lifelong phobias of needles, flying and heights.

‘And although I always thought I was happy, my friends say that I’m happier and confident.’

‘One friend’s daughters saw my pictures on Facebook and said: ‘Ann’s changed so much – she looks amazing, and she looks happy’. I probably wouldn’t have had half of those pictures on there before. But I’m proud to put them on now. I’m just confident walking around.

‘I’d had enough of being overweight – it wasn’t me, and I couldn’t believe that I could be like that for 30 years. I would wear baggy clothes that covered me up. I’m totally opposite now, in completely fitted clothes all the time.

Ann’s journey with Mounjaro isn’t over yet, though.

‘I want to get rid of the last half stone, and then I’ll gradually reduce the dose of Mounjaro. I want to get rid of the last half stone or so, and there will come a point when I’ll come off it.

‘I’m also back in the gym lifting weights, and I’m about to do the Couch to 5K running programme again.

‘I’ve got rid of all my old clothes: I’ve given some away, sold them on Vinted and taken others to charity shops. They’ve all gone. I haven’t kept any ‘just in case’ because I know I’m not putting the weight back on again. I’ve changed myself entirely and like who I am now.’

Since losing weight, Ann has developed a newfound passion for fashion and estimates she has spent £5,000 on clothes.

‘I love clothes, and losing weight has cost me a fortune buying clothes because everything looks nice on me! I reckon I’ve spent £5,000 on new clothes. Everything looks so nice now – I can wear tight clothes now, too.

‘I’m wearing things that I couldn’t wear for 30-odd years. I’ve got several jumpsuits, I can wear proper jeans – I must have 10 pairs. I’ve got boots in every colour under the sun, I’m wearing higher heels than I could before.’
