Curtis Jones has spoken passionately and called on his teammates to “go and smash someone” after Liverpool’s latest loss at Anfield.

Despite being just 24 years old, Jones has seen a lot in his Liverpool career.

He was there when the Reds won their 2020 Premier League under Jurgen Klopp and he was present as the squad developed, evolving into what we see now.

“I don’t have the answers. I’m the same as everybody else. Just unacceptable if I’m honest. I don’t even have the words. I’m past being angry and sad. I’m at the point now where I don’t even at the words.

“It’s hard to actually find the words. I’m playing from a player and a fan, and I’m seeing it like this.

“For a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a team playing this bad and results like this, but at the end of the day we’ve still got that badge on our chest.

“So until that badge goes, we’re always gonna fight and try to get this team back to where it needs to be and show the whole world why Liverpool is the best team in the world.

Jones thinks the Reds have lost some of the bite that made them great under the previous boss.

“It’s not always the fact that we’ve got these lads that are nice on the ball that, you know, we just play and play and play,” the Scouser continued.

“Just go and smash someone. Coming from me as well. I’m not saying that the other lads have to go and do it because I’m the same.

“I’m the exact the same about that you know. The lads are looking at me as well saying, ‘Go on then, smash someone’.”

While ‘smashing someone’ won’t solve all of Liverpool’s problems, it would help lift the mood around the ground in a time when there is little to get behind on the pitch.

Anfield thrives off intensity and the Reds showed some of it in the first half, but as soon as individual mistakes were made, their mentality dropped.

Jones added: “It’s got to be on me and the rest of the lads to not be so nice where teams are coming here thinking, ‘We’re gonna win here. We’re gonna score two, three, four goals’.

“No, you’re coming here and this used to be a place that you hated to come you know, with the fans, with us, how we played and how we’d go and press and we were just absolute dogs. And then we have the ball and then we play.

“Whereas now we hardly even play. There’s times when we do play but off-the-ball stuff, I think that’s the stuff that has to change.”

Klopp led Liverpool to a club-record 68 consecutive league matches unbeaten at Anfield.
