According to the available information, the Italian Antimonopoly Authority took temporary measures against the “Meta” company based on allegations of its misuse of its dominant position in the smart chatbot services market.
The authority said that the conditions introduced by “WhatsApp” on October 15, and the integration of “Meta AI” mechanisms for artificial intelligence into the application, may restrict production, market access, or technology development in the market for artificial intelligence chatbot services.
The authority expanded the scope of the investigation to include “Meta” entities, focusing on the terms of the WhatsApp Business service, according to Bloomberg News Agency.
The Italian Antitrust Authority announced last July that it was working with European Commission officials in an investigation into Meta’s use of artificial intelligence in WhatsApp, while last March the European Commission opened an investigation to determine whether Meta’s artificial intelligence tool was subject to the provisions of the Digital Services Act (DSA).
