Aussie Travellers Worst Nightmare Over Major Passport Mistake On A Work Trip Ill Never Trust My Husband Again

A woman has experienced ‘every traveller’s worst nightmare’ after discovering her husband accidentally packed the wrong passport for her ahead of their long-haul flight to Dubai.

Tayla Broad, wife of AFL star Nathan Broad, posted a TikTok video detailing the ordeal, calling it ‘one of the most stressful 24 hours’ of her life – and one she won’t forget any time soon.

‘I’ll never trust my husband again,’ Tayla began.

‘Last night we were meant to fly to Dubai, and it was a big ordeal. We’ve obviously never left our daughter for so long – she was staying with my parents in Perth.

‘I was already crying, I had so much anxiety, just putting on a brave face to get to the airport.’

Tayla explained that Nathan had retrieved both of their passports from their safe at home in Victoria before they flew to Perth.

‘When we got to the airport (in Perth), I took mine out, went to put it in the machine – and staring back at me was my two-year-old daughter.’

Realising that Nathan had packed little Samara’s passport instead of her own, Tayla froze.

‘I’m going to Dubai for work, I don’t have my passport, and Nathan has packed Samara’s instead of mine,’ she said.

‘Tears just start running down my face and Nathan was white as a ghost at this point. His best advice was, “Why don’t you go and I’ll stay here with Samara?” And I said, “Last time I checked, I’m not a white man called Nathan Broad – but thank you for the suggestion”.’

With the clock ticking and their flight boarding, the pair scrambled to find a solution.

‘We were frantically calling everyone in Melbourne – my manager, our friends – but Melbourne is three hours ahead so everyone was asleep,’ she said.

‘We even tried to contact the team in Dubai, but they couldn’t take out-of-country calls.’

Eventually, Nathan had the idea to email their Dubai contacts, who helped arrange assistance through their travel agent.

‘The plan was for Nathan to get on a midnight flight to Melbourne, grab my passport, then fly back to Perth and hopefully get us on the next night’s flight,’ she said.

‘But the flights were $2,500 just for him to go.’

‘I posted on my story asking if anyone was flying from Melbourne to Perth – and miraculously, a friend’s sister was. That was our best shot,’ she said.

After hours of uncertainty, the travel agent managed to book the couple on a new flight – though at a significant cost.

‘We had to pay the difference, which was quite big, but at that point we were just hoping and praying the passport would arrive in time and we could actually get on a plane,’ she said.

Thankfully, Tayla and Nathan’s ordeal ended in laughter rather than divorce.

‘Holy cr*p, it’s been such a big 24 hours. I’m so proud of us – we didn’t even have a fight at the airport,’ she said.

‘There was a second where I cried, a second where I thought I’d lose my job, and then we were just in “How do we fix it?” mode.’

Back home that night, the couple burst into laughter over the chaos.

‘At least we know our marriage is pretty strong,’ Tayla joked.

‘But never, ever, ever trust your husband to get your passport. Check it yourself. Open the passport and check it.’

Her video quickly racked up thousands of comments from sympathetic travellers – especially women who admitted they’d have reacted far less calmly.

‘Did he not even look at them? Literally just grabbed the first two he saw and hoped for the best,’ one wrote.

‘I would never trust my husband – always check yourself,’ another said, while a third joked, ‘Our marriage isn’t even strong enough to let him hold the passports, so you two are clearly made to last.’

Others shared similar horror stories, including one woman whose friend’s husband once packed their child’s expired passport before an international flight.
