Academy Award winner Angela Bassett just brought her best runway walk to Vogue World: Hollywood.

On Sunday Oct. 26, Bassett made a surprise appearance at the fourth annual fashion event in the original outfit worn by her character Queen Ramonda from the Black Panther franchise.

The actress, 67, wore the same gown that her character from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever wears to a U.N. meeting in Geneva — but this time, she slipped on the elaborate number to float down the Paramount Pictures Studios lot runway in Los Angeles to the delight of the crowd.

The dress was designed by industry icon Ruth E. Carter in various hues of vibrant purples (the color that signifies royalty) with Wakandan hieroglyphs in golden threads woven down the center and sides. It had a halter silhouette with a sculptural gold collar.

Bassett wore Ramonda’s 3-D printed crown atop a isicholo, a traditional hat worn by married Zulu woman. Carter worked with artist Julia Koerner on the 3-D elements of the look, per Vogue.

To accessorize, the actress slipped on Ramonda’s striking gold jewelry. Designed by Douriean Fletcher, the pieces including earrings and an adorned collar.

Bassett, whose work on the film earned her the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2023, walked during the Afrofuturism section of the show, which places focus on how Carter and more have interpreted traditional African garments for cinema.

Carter’s reimagining led her to become the first Black costume designer to win an Academy Award when she took home the Oscar for Black Panther. She then went on to win another for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, too.

Vogue World: Hollywood marks the fourth rendition of the fashion event, which made its debut in 2022 after the COVID-19 pandemic. The show was hosted in London in 2023 and Paris in 2024, where an opening ceremony of fashion was held at the Place Vendôme with 500-plus models.

This year, Vogue World served as a love letter to Hollywood. Fear of God designer Jerry Lorenzo created an eight-piece Vogue World: Hollywood capsule honoring the iconic LA landmarks, which will also be available for purchase.

The night honors the rich dynamic between film and fashion with 100% of ticket proceeds going towards the Entertainment Community Fund, with a focus on supporting costume community professionals impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires.

It’s A-list, to say the least, with performances by Doja Cat and Gracie Abrams. Plus, Cynthia Erivo, Hailey Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Karol G, Ayo Edebiri, Dakota Johnson, Gwyneth Paltrow all stepped out for the sartorial event.
