Mary Steenburgen’s Teen Son Left HORRIFIED After Walking In On His Friends Watching Her Naked Movie Scene

No teenager ever wants to see their parent naked… but that’s apparently hard to avoid when your mom is a famous actress who stripped down on screen.

Movie star Mary Steenburgen’s son, Charlie McDowell, was once forced to see his mom’s nude scene at just 15 years old after he walked in on his friends watching it.

The actress’ husband, Ted Danson, opened up about the awkward incident on his podcast Where Everybody Knows Your Name this week.

The Cheers alum explained that when Charlie, now 42, was just 15 years old, his pals stumbled across Steenburgen’s nude scene from the 1980 flick Melvin and Howard.

He said Charlie walked in on them ‘innocently’ watching it and was left horrified.

‘Mary did a film, she won the Academy Award for it, but she has a scene, because she’s a dancer in this bar, where she’s buck naked – it’s brilliant and it’s wonderful,’ Danson said.

‘Charlie, her son, when he was 15 maybe, he and his buddies (were bored on a) Friday night and flipping around.

‘(Charlie) goes out to get a sandwich and comes back into the room. His friend had innocently landed on that scene.

‘(His friend) clicked on it, and Charlie walked back in and just reamed (his friend) out. He was so angry, (like), “That’s my mom! What are you doing?”‘

Guest Kathryn Hahn joked that her 19-year-old son Leonard Sandler, whom she shares with husband Ethan Sandler, ‘can’t see any of the movies’ she’s in for that reason.

‘He would be devastatingly embarrassed (if he saw me naked),’ she said.

‘Just the thought of his mom in a movie like that or some of the other things I’ve done is understandably a nightmare.’

She added that when she let her son and daughter, Mae Marie Sandler, 16, watch her flick Step Brothers, she made sure to skip all the inappropriate scenes.

‘I fast-forwarded so much of it that I think they saw a 17-minute movie,’ she joked.

Steenburgen welcomed her son with her now-ex Malcolm McDowell in 1983, along with daughter Lilly McDowell in 1981.

They split in 1990 and she went on to wed Danson in 1995.

Charlie has followed in her footsteps and entered into the movie industry, and he’s now a successful director and screenwriter.

He was behind the Netflix dramas The Discovery and Windfall, as well as the flicks The One I Love and The Summer Book.

He wed actress Lily Collins in 2021, and welcomed their first child together via surrogate earlier this year.

They shared the news via Instagram at the time, with Collins writing, ‘Welcome to the center of our world Tove Jane McDowell.

‘Words will never express our endless gratitude for our incredible surrogate and everyone who helped us along the way. We love you to the moon and back again.’
